Today is the day! We are off to the airport to start our new adventure! Here we go with 3 suitcases between the two of us and we are both carrying a backpack. I took two of the suitcases which oly left 1 for Vicki to handle. This might have been all right but the backpack became an issue for Vicki, She got it on...then she wanted it off...the straps are too loose...the straps are too tight...let me out of this thing! Vicki, I said, " THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A BACKPACK, NOT A STRAIGHT JACKET!" LOL! There were not too many people in line but the nice lady saw Vicki struggling and opened a new lane for her! So far so good ...we made it to the airport! Now for the plane.
Leg 2. Of to Chicago, not bad...3 hours and we were there!
Leg 3. Chicago to Zurich, Well is the leg we have been worrying about. It was about a 7 hour flight, at night and Vicki, of course, cannot sleep at home much less on an air plane! Not too long into the flight Vicki started to get twitchy...so she did what all good athletes do.....she started walking...shewalked and walked and walked all the way from Chicago to Zurich! This is not the longest walk that she has ever taken....absolutely not....she also walked all the way from Mexico City to Buenos Aries!LOL! Did I tell you that in 18 hours we had five meals? We also had one croissant extra one half of a big cookie and a. We felt like we were going to be balloons by the time we got to the crew ship much less spending 19 days on the ship.
lEG 4. Less than 2 hours and we were there!
Leg 5. Took a private taxi to the hotel dock!
View from the hotel terrace
Vicki come back!....don't scare the birds!
One of the things we enjoyed doing in Venice was to ride the water taxi and looking at all of the historical landmarks! Jerry and Reid stayed on an island about 25 minutes from Venice. The island was called Lido. I would certainly stay there in the future.
After we finished our taxi ride through the canals we decided to have lunch by the canal. A protest march went by the cafe. It was rather exciting to observe the protest. Northern Italy wants to separate from southern Italy!
Every morning while we were in Venice we went to a fun cafe. We had the most wonderful hot chocolate! It was so thick you could chew it! And ...oh...the wonderful croissants filled with marmalade. Yum! Yum!
October 9th and 10th-On board the Ruby Princess
- We have had a fun time in Venice but now it is time to go to the ship!We will be on the ship from today October 9th until we dock in Ft. Lauderdale on the 28th of October! The last 7 days being at sea! We are ready to see Lou, Jerry and Reid on board!

It was exciting to get on the ship! We ran straight to our stateroom and threw open the door. Much to our horror this is what we found...there were two bunk beds hanging from the side walls...in order to get to the top of the bed we had to turn sideways and shuffle sideways to the top of the bed...and oh, yes, we had to bend over to do it! Well, we both did it and then we sat down on the bed...when we went to stand up we immediately waked our heads on the hanging bunks...not gently, I must say! I kept repeating over and over ..." this is not going to work for us!"
Needless to say, it took a lot of talking and pleading to get the cabin steward to turn the bed around so that our heads were against the wall and under the bunk beds. Finally on the second day they moved the beds. The picture below shows the rearrangement but there are no bunks on the walls...we still hathe bunks right where the picture is hanging!
This link is a video of the sail away from Venice and it is absolutely wonderful, don't miss it! Just

October 11th-
We were so happy, running around the ship, getting everything set up the way we like it. Today is a sea day and tonight is a formal night! For those of you who have not been on a cruise, a formal night is just that...I really don't like to get that dressed up...but I did! After dinner we went to the s entertainment show and it was actually pretty good. We arrived back in our cabi, to our newley rearranged room and Vicki promptly threw up! Vicki never gets sick to her stomach...she threw up all night...this was not good. In the morning we will be in port and Vicki is still sick.
October 12th, Naples ItLY...
With Vicki still being sick she is not able to go on the tour. I am not going to go without her as she threw up 14 times. We called the guys and told them we were not going and then we called 911 for the paramedics to come. We were told we should have called the first time that Vicki got sick. so now she is on "house arrest' for 24 more hours from her last episode.... This means no tour tomorrow either!
"We promise she will stay in her room until tomorrow night!"
October 13th, Rome...
Vicki is feeling much better this morning but can not go on the tour. She insisted that I go on the tour. Reid came and picked me up and off we went to spend the day in Rome

Yes, it started raining and it was such a surprise to see all the colorful umbrellas!
After we returned to the ship, Vicki was ready to get out of the cabin and was able to go to dinner. Vicki was not hungry and tried to pick at what she thought would be okay for her stomach. We did not go to the ship show but she was anxious to get back to our room and settle in for the evening!
October 14th, Florence Italy
We woke up and prepared for our tour in Florence. While eating breakfast I told Vicki that I was not sure I was going to go. On the way back to the room I was getting worse and worse...and up my breakfast came...Vicki grabbed a bag.....oops here it comes again...bag is leaking...run, run, run... OMG! Nothing like spreading the wealth as I left a trail behind me....call 911...go on the tour...go go go...here comes the para-medic, now GO! I am on 'house arrest' until 5;30 the next day which was a sea day. That is 24 hours from my last episode! At 5:30 the next day I was released in time for dinner. Vicki and Jerry had a good time in Florence and had a nice soup for lunch! Vicki was feeling so so and I was not really interested in eating anything but oatmeal and crackers! No show tonight, for me. Back to the room and the bed! Vicki and Jerry went to the show.
Vicki and Jerry had great soup in Florence Italy
Last night the winds were blowing at 79 miles per mile! I did not like the way I had to rum up hill to go to the bathroom! LOL. It was scary. Today is a sea day and we are busy outrunning a hurricane named Rafael. The sea is rough but other than that we are fine!
October 16th, Barcelona Spain
This is the 4th day of tours and the first day that both Vicki and I are going to be go on the tour together. I still really don't feel very good and neither does Vicki but we are going!. We did not eat or drink while we were off the ship except for bottled water. I only remember the Church we visited and sitting on a wall waiting for the bus!
La Familia Cathedral, Barcelona Spain
Back to the ship. We stopped at the International Cafe and had a little bite to eat....I trotted back to the room and since the trots were back, I called 911. Now I count as 2 cases. I am confined to my room for another 24 hours after the last episode! Sea day tomorrow. I am lucky and I should be out of "house arrest," in time for dinner. Well I was out in time but I decided to ordered my dinner from the PINK, for sick people, on room service menue. Oatmeal is just fine! Got to be better for Casablanca!
October 18th, Casablanca North Africa
We are up and ready to take our tour. Little did we know that it was going to be one of the worst tours we have ever take. The tour company did no narrative of the tour and did not take us to the places we were suppose to go to! We saw a court house, and the outside of the Mosque. We were suppose to go into the Mosque! Because of the political climate we were nervous about the tour to begin with. Again, we did not eat of drink anything while on the tour. People came back to the ship and were dropping like flies! Of course, the ship blamed it on food poisoning from the port. Everyone was very upset about the tours! These are pictures of the Court House.
We have one day at sea and then we will be in Madeira Portugal. This gives us another day to rest up and try to get well! We were able to avoid one hurricane only to find out we are going directly into Hurricane Sandy!
October 20. Madeira Portugal
We are feeling better! This is a really great little town, so pretty and clean!
We loved seeing all the crafts and had a great lunch!
This is a beautiful city and is known for its embroidery!

October 21-28 at sea
We were not very active during our sea days. We spent most of our time in the International cafe. Lou found us every morning for coffee and sometimes we had lunch with him. We were basically just hanging our in the International cafe! The staff was very good to us and like to entertain us!
For you!!! All the diet coke you can drink!
We like it when you take our pictures and put us on the internet! I will take yours!
We are going to be actors when we grow up!
Oct 24th, at sea
So you will know, the bathroom door opens and you can , if you are not careful, walk
right into the closet!
October 24
Now Jerry is sick and they have put him on "house arrest " for 48 hours. He is early sick but at least e is not missing any tours!
None of you will be surprised to hear this story. Every morning I do the table jockeying game! Today I only had to move three times to get my favorite table! LOL! Some things never change!
The sea is much better today. We are even with Cuba heading north, riding in on the southern tail of hurricane Sandy! The suitcases must be packed and outside the door before dinner!
looking forward to being on land!
Well, I am having GI problems. Cant let them know as they will put me under house arrest again and they wont let me out until we get to Aruba. Lol!
This is it! I just fell out of the bathroom, hit my head on the closet wall , fell into the suitcase . twisted my knee and came up with Vicki's shirt wrapped around my head!! NO! Iam not all right, I am all wrong
This is our last dinner together as we reach port in the morning!
We are heading into the hurricane! We will be coming in from the south on the tail of the Sandy. Now we are down south by Cuba heading north to Ft. Lauderdale!
